Handwritten letter from the City Marshal of Dewey, Oklahoma, dated
less than a month after the state was admitted into the Union
Autograph letter signed "J. L. Walker". 1 page, 8 1/2 x 10 3/4
on Walker's City Marshall letterhead. Dec. 4, 1907. Addressed to Mr. H.
R. Barues, Coffeyville, Kansas. In full: "I haven't heard from those
parties any more in regard to the loud matter. They are all fullblooded and you
will know what will have to be done in the matter. I got a friend of mine to
look after the matter for me. Will keep you posted. Yours very truly,".
Thisletter is dated less than a month after Oklahoma was
admitted into the Union on Nov. 16, 1907. WALKER was City Marshal of Dewey,
Oklahoma in 1907. Western star Tom Mix had been a deputy marshal in Dewey, but
had joined a Wild West show by 1906. Lightly toned, espeically along horizontal
folds and at bottom edge. Three round tears, possibly binder or file holes, on
left side. Page has been folded in sixteenths and unfolded. Small tears along
folds on left and right sides. Otherwise in fine condition.
