Normanly” in black ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1937 July 27. On official Universal Pictures Company, Inc. To “A.C. Martin”. In part: “This is in connection with a recent phone conversation I had with Mr. Karp, with reference to certain claims being made by Paramount Productions, Inc. against this company for sales tax on invoices during 1933, 1934, 1935, and 1936 brought to light by audit of the Board of Equalization in the Spring of 1936.” James P. Normanly served as the vice president in charge of business and financial contracts at Universal Pictures. Normanly started out in the banking business and met with great success negotiating contracts between Giannini banks and Broadway theatrical producers. He then worked for Bank of America in both New York and California. After working as a general business manager for Universal, in 1936 he was promoted to vice president in charge of business and contracts in 1936. Lightly toned. Several horizontal and vertical mailing folds. Pencil notes in margins in an unknown hand. Worn and creased throughout. Ink marking runs down center of page. Ink stain at lower left-hand corner. Binding holes along top edge. Corners and edges worn and creased.
