“Dear Mr. Kelly”. In full: “Permit me to thank you for your letter of December 13th with which
you enclosed membership card in the New Jersey State Society. I shall be very pleased to accept
membership in the State Society and to serve on the Board of Governors. Thanking you for writing
me and hoping to make your acquaintance in the near future, I am Sincerely.” J. Parnell
Thomas (1895-1970) was a politician who had previously worked as a stockbroker. He
served seven terms in Congress, representing the state of New Jersey. After corruption charges
were brought successfully against him, he served nine month in federal prison. The
allegations of corruption involved a women who worked for Thomas, Myra Midkiff, kicking
back her salary to the congressman for four years. Stain covers large portion of lower third of
letter. Creasing throughout. Corners and edges worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
