JACK BENNY
Jack Benny signs a check to pay City National Bank of Beverly Hills $2,285.94.
Check signed: "Jack Benny", 8x3. Beverly Hills, California, 1965 May 5. Check No.
10322, drawn on his account at the Bank of America in Beverly Hills, payable to City
National Bank of Beverly Hills for $2,285.94. Accompanied by: B/w photo of Jack Benny
playing the violin, 5x10 visible, and 6x4 biography plate. Former vaudeville comedian Jack
Benny (1894-1974) had hosted a popular radio show from 1933, moving The Jack Benny
Program smoothly to TV. The Jack Benny Program was televised on CBS from October 28,
1950 to September 15, 1964, when it was cancelled. NBC, the network that had lost Benny to
CBS in 1949, picked up the show and aired it for one more season, September 25, 1964 to
September 10, 1965. Benny's comic image as a tone-deaf, penny-pinching bachelor
contradicted the real Benny, a philanthropist, devoted husband and competent violinist who
was popular for over 40 years. In addition to his radio and television work, Benny appeared in
over 25 movies, the most critically acclaimed being To Be Or Not To Be (1942).Light show
through from bank stamp on verso at "Jack" and the "Be" of Benny. Lightly creased with folds,
not at signatures. Bank cancellation holes, not at signatures. Fine condition. Set in leather
folio: 10x12¾.
The image has been altered to conceal sensitive information. These concealing marks
are not present on the check itself.
