JACK BENNY - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED CHECK 06/13/1967 - HFSID 171081
Sale Price $270.00
He signs a check to his golf club (1967).
Partly Printed Check signed: "Jack Benny", 8¼x3¼. Beverly Hills, California, 1967 June 13. On his "Jack Benny - Master Account" at the Bank of America, Beverly Hills, payable to Hillcrest Country Club for $193.10. Jack Benny was a member of the Hillcrest Country Club, founded in 1922. It was the first and, until the 1950s, the only golf club in the area that admitted Jews as members. The former vaudeville comedian had hosted a popular radio show from 1933, moving The Jack Benny Program smoothly to TV (1950-1965). The Jack Benny Program was televised on CBS from October 28, 1950 to September 15, 1964, when it was cancelled. NBC, the network that had lost Benny to CBS in 1949, picked up the show and it ran for one more season, September 25, 1964 to September 10, 1965. Benny's comic image as a tone-deaf, penny-pinching bachelor contradicted the real Benny, a philanthropist, devoted husband and competent violinist. He appeared in over 25 movies, the most critically acclaimed being To Be Or Not To Be (1942). Embossed cancellations and show through of bank stamps on verso at left margin. Mid-vertical fold, not at signature. Fine condition.
