JACK BENNY Card inscribed to the wife of "the man with the X-ray eyes." Inscribed Printed Card Signed in Ink: "To Elsie -/from/Jack/Benny" in pencil, 4x5. Chicago, circa 1937. Written on verso of card promoting the appearance of "Myrus, The Wizard of Mental Telepathy" at The College Inn at the Sherman Hotel in Chicago. Photograph of "The Man with the Xray Eyes" on front. Vaudeville comedian Jack Benny (1894-1974), born Benjamin Kubelsky, hosted a popular radio show from 1933, moving The Jack Benny Program smoothly to TV (1950-1965). His comic image as a tone-deaf, penny-pinching bachelor contradicted the real Benny, a philanthropist, devoted husband and competent violinist. He appeared in over 25 movies, the most critically acclaimed being To Be Or Not To Be (1942). This card is from the personal collection of Elsie Myrus, the wife of the mental telepathist. She would collect the autographs of celebrities attending her husband's shows. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
