JACK BENNY and BUD ABBOTT
Comedians with very different styles sign opposite sides of an album leaf in 1950.
Inscribed signature: "To Peter/from/Jack Benny." and signed on verso: "Bud Abbott", 4¾x3 album leaf. Names written (unknown hand) on both sides, which are dated: "27.6.50". In 1950, Abbott co-starred in the feature film, Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion.Vaudeville comedian JACK BENNY (1894-1974) hosted a popular radio show from 1933, moving smoothly to TV (1950-1965). Benny appeared in over 25 movies, the most critically acclaimed of which was To Be or Not to Be (1942). Benny's comic image as a tone-deaf, penny-pinching bachelor contradicted the real Benny, a philanthropist, devoted husband and competent violinist.BUD ABBOTT(1897-1974) formed with Lou Costello (1906-1959) one of the greatest comedy teams in the history of show business. With Abbott as straight man and Costello as clown, they found popular success from vaudeville and burlesque to radio, Broadway, films and television. Their "Who's on First?" routine is enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Abbott's last role was as his own voice in Hanna-Barbera's Abbott and Costello cartoon series. Slightly creased and soiled. Minor show through of ink. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Overall, fine condition.
