JACK BUCHANAN and FRED EMNEY
Signatures by the actor, singer and dancer, and the tons-of-fun comedian with black and white printed photographs of both affixed
Signature(s): "Fred Emney" and "Jack Buchanan", both in blue ink. Unknown signature in top left corner and affixed on verso. 6½x5¼. Name label for Buchanan in bottom right corner. Printed b/w photographs of Emney and Buchanan affixed. Buchanan and Emney appeared in three movies together: Brewster's Millions (1935), Emney's film debut; Come Out of the Pantry (1935) and The Middle Watch (1939). Scottish-born JACK BUCHANAN (1890-1957) debuted on the London stage in 1912 and on the silver screen five years later. His film appearances included Monte Carlo (1930), Brewster's Millions (1935) and The Band Wagon (1953). He held his own when paired with other debonair screen personalities like Maurice Chevalier and Fred Astaire. The son and namesake of a music hall entertainer, British character actor and comedian FRED EMNEY (1900-1980) was best known for playing cigar-chomping, monocle-wearing, gloriously rotund men-about-town. He got his start in English music halls before his film debut in 1935. In all, he appeared in over 40 movies and TV shows between 1935 and 1977. Lightly toned, soiled, creased, and bowed. Buchanan's signature is lightly smeared but legible. Show-through from signature on verso and transference from other pages, which touch Emney's and unknown signatures. Torn from binding at left edge. Top, right and bottom edges are lightly discolored. Otherwise, fine condition.
