JACK BUCHANAN and PHYLLIS DARE
Green album leaf signed by the actor and actress
Signature: "Jack Buchanan" in green ink 6x5 album leaf. Scottish-born Buchanan (1890-1957) debuted on the London stage in 1912 and on the silver screen five years later. His film appearances included Monte Carlo (1930), Brewster's Millions (1935) and The Band Wagon (1953). He held his own when paired with other debonair screen personalities like Maurice Chevalier and Fred Astaire. British actress Phyllis Dare (1890-1975) first appeared on stage (age 9) at the Cornet Theatre in Babes in the Woods, her sister Zena was also cast in the production. She continued to work regularly for the next few years. After taking a few years off to study, she was fully active again by 1905. At age 17, she published her autobiography From School to Stage. Known for her Edwardian musical comedy roles, she managed a few films such as Argentine Tango and Other Dances (1913), The Common Law (1923) and the last, Gildersleeve on Broadway (1943). Dare's last performance was on stage in King's Rhapsody that opened in 1949 and ran for 2 years, where she again worked with her sister Zena. Lightly toned, soiled, creased, and bowed. Neatly torn from binding at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
