Jack Dempsey signs a printed illustration of"The Long Count - 14 seconds that are the most famous in boxing history"
Printed Illustration signed: "Jack Dempsey". B/w, 8x11. Captioned magazine illustration of "The Long Count - 14 seconds that are the most famous in boxing history". Dempsey KO'd Jess Willard to become World Heavyweight Champion in 1919. He lost his title to Gene Tunney in 1926 in a ten-round decision. A year later, in a rematch, Dempsey knocked down Tunney in the seventh round but didn't immediately return to a neutral corner so the referee didn't start to count Tunney out. Tunney got to his feet before the ref reached ten, about 14 seconds after he had been hit by Dempsey. Tunney eventually won a ten-round decision. Lightly creased. Vertical fold not at signature. Mounting remnant at upper verso, light show through to blank margin. Overall, fine condition.
