Autograph Sentiment signed: "Yours truly/J Harrison", 2½x1½ ruled sheet. Accompanied by b/w postcard photo with affixed ink caption (unknown hand): British Middle Champ, 1912. Ink note on verso (unknown hand): "Jack Harrison (Rushden)/Middlewt Champion of Gt Britain/(Relinquished title)". Pencil note (also unknown hand): "Photo given by Jack Harrison." The autograph was formerly affixed to the back of the postcard. Jack Harrison (d. 1971) won the British middleweight boxing title by defeating Pat McEvoy on May 12, 1912. Instead of defending the crown in Britain, Harrison traveled to the US, where he was pummeled in Madison Square Garden by American Eddie McGoorty, knocked out 2½ minutes into the first round. Returning to London, he was KO'd again by American welterweight Harry Lewis in the third round. He never formally defended his title. Harrison fought on until 1924, retiring with a record of 14-12-3-3. Irregularly cut edges. Lightly toned. Fine condition.
