Magazine Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/ Jack Hulbert" in black ink, b/w, 8½x9¾. Comedy
actor Jack Hulbert (1892-1978) was educated at Cambridge University, and first appearing
in shows and revues with Cambridge's amateur theatrical club (Cambridge Footlights).
Popular in the comedy troupe, Hulbert soon found success in film, making his debut in 1930
with Elstree Calling. He would go on to appear in several more movies through the 1930s,
being voted the most popular British star in 1934, and third most popular in 1936. As the
1930s came to an end, Hulbert's popularity began to fade, and he and his wife returned to
entertaining primarily on stages, which he continued to do late into his life. He still made rare
television and film appearances, his last one being in 1974's The Cherry Picker. Irregularly
cut. Fold in center. Tear on right margin. Light surface creases, some affecting image. Corners
lightly worn and creased. Toned on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
