Nicklaus and Palmer thrilled golf fans by dominating the links with their superb play
and intense rivalry. The two golfing immortals have an amazing 25 Grand Slam
tournament championships between them. JACK NICKLAUS (born in 1940), who
played professionally from 1962-1999, captured 71 PGA official tour victories and won
several international events, including the British Open (1966, 1970, 1978), the Australian
Open (1964, 1968, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1978), the World Series of Golf (1962, 1963, 1967,
1970, 1976) and the Ryder Cup. The major titles won by "The Golden Bear" include a record
six Masters, five PGA Championships and four U.S. Opens. ARNOLD PALMER (born
in 1929), the first to capture four Masters titles (1958, 1960, 1962, 1964), made 48
consecutive Masters starts. He also competed in 19 international tours, winning the British
Open in 1961 and 1962. Palmer, who has had 61 wins on the PGA Tour and12 on the Senior
Tour, was the first golfer to earn more than $1,000,000 in PGA tournament money.
Credited with popularizing professional golf during the late 1950s and 1960s, his large and
enthusiastic following of fans became known as "Arnie's Army". Two items. Framed to an
