Yellow flag with blue lettering. "1999 U.S. Open/Pinehurst No. 2". The 1999 U.S. Open, held at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club (No. 2) in Pinehurst, North Carolina, June 17-20, 1999, was won by PAYNE STEWART (1957-1999), who had previously won the U.S. Open in 1991. On October 25, 1999, Stewart was killed in a plane crash.
