JACK NICKLAUS.Printed Image signed: "Jack Nicklaus". Color, 23½x16½ overall, image 18¾x11½ (one surface). July/August 1985 page from the "Great Moments From the Silver Era" calendar (1959-1983) by "Golf Magazine". Titled at upper margin: "Silver Era/The British Open St. Andrews". Caption at lower margin headed: "Triumphant Return. Eight years after his triumph at St. Andrews in 1970, Jack Nicklaus returned to win a second championship on the Old Course". Caption, in full: "Three times since his 1970 victory at St. Andrews Jack Nicklaus had finished second in Britain. In '77, Nicklaus suffered a bruising loss to Tom Watson at Turnberry. He hadn't won a major championship in three years when, in 1979, the British Open returned to the Old Course. The Golden Bear was hungry - he also was one down to Simon Owen on the 16th hole of the final round and faced a delicate downwind wedge shot. He put the ball 10 feet from the cup and sank the putt; Owen took bogey. Two good pars won the tournament, and Jack Nicklaus, tears in his eyes, was hailed by the throng as the champion returned." "The Golden Bear" won the British Open trophy three times (1966, 1970 and 1978). Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, who played professionally from 1962-1999, captured 71 PGA official tour victories and won several international events, including the British Open, the Australian Open (1964, 1968, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1978), the World Series of Golf (1962, 1963, 1967, 1970, 1976) and the Ryder Cup. His major titles include a record six Masters, five PGA Championships and four U.S. Opens. Fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 31x24.
