He hadn't won a major championship in three years when, in 1979, the British Open returned to the Old Course. The Golden Bear was hungry - he also was one down to Simon Owen on the 16th hole of the final round and faced a delicate downwind wedge shot. He put the ball 10 feet from the cup and sank the putt; Owen took bogey. Two good pars won the tournament, and Jack Nicklaus, tears in his eyes, was hailed by the throng as the champion returned."
