JACK NICKLAUS. Printed Image signed: "Jack Nicklaus". Color, 23½x16½ overall, image 19x11½. Calendar illustration (for November/December 1985) from "Golf Magazine's" Great Moments from the Silver Era (1959-1983). Lithograph copy by Walt Spitzmiller (1984). Headed at upper margin: "Silver Era/The British Open Turnberry". Caption at lower margin headed: "Title Bout at Turnberry/Head to head for 36 holes, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson wrestled to the end in an epic match for the 1977 British Open". Caption, in full: "'You know,' Jack Nicklaus said, his hands on Tom Watson's shoulders, 'I'm tired of giving my best and finding it's not enough.' The two had just completed the greatest match in the history of the game, Watson finishing 65-66 to win the '77 British Open by one over Nicklaus. On the 10th tee, with the famous lighthouse in the background, Nicklaus stood one ahead. But the lead was gone after a long Watson putt on 15. Nicklaus missed a four footer on 17 that gave Watson the lead. The Golden Bear heroically holed a 32 footer for birdie on 18 - but Watson was two feet from birdie, and he made it." Although "The Golden Bear" suffered a bruising loss to Tom Watson at the 1977 British Open at Turnberry, he won the British Open trophy the following year - the third of his three victories (1966, 1970 and 1978). Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, who played professionally from 1962-1999, captured 71 PGA official tour victories and won several international events, including the British Open, the Australian Open (1964, 1968, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1978), the World Series of Golf (1962, 1963, 1967, 1970, 1976) and the Ryder Cup. His major titles include a record six Masters, five PGA Championships and four U.S. Opens. Slightly creased at upper blank margin. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 30¾x23¾.
