JACK O'MALLEY
Signed picture post card (3¼x5¼) of the Australian heavyweight
champion boxer shown in his robe after a match.
Inscribed picture postcard signed: "To Mr. Kingston/from/Jack O'
Malley/Jan/33", in black ink. B/w, 3¼x5¼. Jack O'Malley won his first
heavyweight title fight in 1931 against George Cook at Sydney Stadium,
Australia. He defended his title against Cook for a second time later that year,
winning again by points. However in July he was defeated by Alan Campbell in the
Australasian Heavyweight match at Theatre Royal. Stripped of his belt, the champ
went to seek the title again in 1932, but lost to Ambrose Palmer. Following this
loss O'Malley went on an international career, seeking to reclaim his title in
Europe. Coming home off of big wins, he tried one final time in 1933 for the
Australian light heavyweight championship, but was knocked out by Pietro
Spagnola in the 12th round. He retired with a record of 38-19-3. Signature in
adequate contrast, but legible. Corners creased. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on
verso. Fine condition.
