JACK PALANCE
35x37 framed photo display from a 1993 Beverly Hills roast honoring Jack
Palance
Photographic Display, unsigned, framed to an overall size of 35x37¼. Photo in
center (color, 9¾x7¾) shows Palance receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award
from Steve Allen and officers of the club. Flanking the central photo are two
metallic plaques (each 6x4) and sixteen photographs (color, each 3x4) of
celebrities attending the event. (Attendees pictured in the small photos include
Steve Allen, Martin Landau, Sid Caesar, Ed Lauter, and Palance himself.) The
club which hosted the roast is a well known one, but litigation between once
affiliated and now long separated clubs of the same name in New York and Los
Angeles prevents us from naming the club in this description. One of the
screen's most grizzled actors, Jack Palance (1919-2006) defined true grit
for many a filmgoer. In WWII, he piloted bombers, one of which crashed. The
severe burns Palance received led to extensive facial surgery, resulting in his
gaunt, pinched face. Nominated for Academy Awards for Best Supporting
Actor in 1953 for Sudden Fear and in 1954 for Shane, Palance
won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for City Slickers in
1991.
Fine condition. Not framed in the Gallery of History
Style.
