JACK PEARL
Rare vintage photo of "The Baron" as he appears in Ziegfeld
Follies in 1931.
Inscribed Photograph signed: "To Harry Wilkinson'/With every best
wish/& sincere regards/Jack Pearl/Ziegfeld Follies/1931".
Sepia, 8x10. Pearl starred in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1931 on
Broadway. Comic actor Jack Pearl (1894-1982) starred in vaudeville, on
Broadway stages, and above all in a series of radio programs of the 1930s.
He created (or loosely adapted) the character Baron Munchausen, who told
far-fetched stories in a comic German accent. His stock reply to challenges,
"Vass you dere, Sharley?" became a national catch phrase. He starred in
the film Meet the Baron (1933), and wrote a juvenile novel featuring
Munchausen the following year. Corners creased and worn with pin-sized holes.
Edges worn. Light surface scratches. Lightly soiled. Ink notes (unknown hand),
adhesive residue and collector's stamps on verso (no show through). Otherwise,
fine condition.
