JACK "SLUG" BURNSIndex card signed by St. Louis Brown first baseman Jack Burns with his "Best Wishes" Autograph sentiment signed "Best Wishes/Irving 'Jack' Burns" in blue ink. 5x3 card. Burns (1906-1975), born John Irving Burns, was a major league first baseman from 1930 to 1936, mostly with the St. Louis Browns. He led the American League in sacrifice hits in 1935 with 20 and placed in the AL Top 10 for hits (1932), singles (1932), doubles (1933), stolen bases (1931-1933) and sacrifice hits (1932 and 1934). After retiring from play, he managed the Toronto Maple Leafs *(1938-1939), the Bradford Bees (1942), the Fall River Indians (1946), the Scranton Red Sox (1949-1951) and the Albany Senators (1952-1954) and was a BoSox coach (1955-1959) and scout (1947-1948 and 1961-1973). Lightly toned. Signature is slightly shaky. Otherwise in fine condition.
