Jack Webb and William Bowers sign a document agreeing to produce a
motion picture presently entitled The Last Time I Saw Archie.
Document Signed: "Jack Webb" and "William
Bowers". 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1961 December 13. Typed letter to
Talbot Productions, Inc., Hollywood, California. Agreeing to a joint
venture between Talbot Productions, Bowers's Manzanita Corp., and Webb's
Mark VII Ltd., to produce a motion picture presently entitled The Last
Time I Saw Archie and recognizing a Financing Agreement among these
parties and United Artists Corp. Also signed by representatives of Talbot
Productions and Manzanita Corporation, and accompanied by a 1-page attachment
acknowledging receipt of the above document, signed by a representative of
United Artists. JACK WEBB (1920-1982) portrayed Sgt. Joe Friday on, and also
directed, the television police drama Dragnet, which started on radio
(1949) and continued through two successful runs on TV (1952-1959 and
1967-1970). He directed several films and produced other TV dramas, including
Emergency and Adam 12. WILLIAM BOWERS (1916-1987) was an Oscar
nominated screenwriter (for The Gunfighter, 1950 and
Sheepman,1958). He also appeared in films on occasion, including a role
as the head of the Senate investigating committee in The Godfather,
Part II. The Last Time I Saw Archie, a comedy about military life
starring and directed by Webb, did appear in 1961. Webb and Bowers were the
target of a lawsuit by the title figure satirized in the film, B-movie producer
Arch Hall Sr. (1908-1978). Two binder holes at top. Staple holes at upper left.
