JACK WEBB
Jack Webb signs a document for the Directors Guild of America, Inc.
Document signed: "Jack Webb", 8½x1. No place, 1961 January 5. For the due's owed by Jack Webb to the Director Guild of America for the year 1961. Dragnet, one of the most famous crime shows in television history, began on radio in 1949, with Jack Webb (1920-1982) as Sergeant Joe Friday, a hardworking Los Angeles policeman. Dragnet and Webb came to NBC TV in 1951; the half-hour show went off the air in 1959. In 1967, Dragnet returned to the airwaves with its suspenseful theme by Walter Schumann, its trademark dialogue ("Just the facts, ma'am"), the epilogue providing the fate of those arrested, its ending disclaimer ("The story you have just seen is true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent."), and the chiseling of "Mark VII," Webb's production company, at the conclusion of the show. Although the revised version only ran until 1971, Dragnet's unique style made it a classic. When Jack Webb died in 1982, the Los Angeles Police Department flew its flags at half-mast. Fold creases not near signature. Fine condition.
