JACKIE COOGAN
He autographs a logbook during the filming of Mutiny on the Bounty (1935).
Document signed: "Jackie Coogan" in pencil, 2p (front and verso), 11¾x11¾. "'S.S. Bounty', Isthmus (Catalina), June 19 [c. 1935]. Chief Engineer's Log Book detailing her daylong activities, including such actions as starting the generator, heaving anchor, serving lunch, pumping bilge, and shutting down the generator. Hours worked that day by the engineering crew (13 each) are also listed. Also signed on verso "Althea Tracy" as Chief Engineer. Pencil note (unknown hand): "Althea - Had Jackie Coogan sign the log book. You can cut out for an autograph." Child actor Jackie Coogan (1914-1984), a vaudeville stage performer since age four, was tapped by Charlie Chaplin to appear in A Day's Pleasure in 1919. Two years later, Coogan starred with Chaplin in his masterpiece, The Kid. Coogan's other film credits include Oliver Twist (1922), Tom Sawyer (1930), Huckleberry Finn (1931), The Buster Keaton Story (1957), Girl Happy (1965), The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968), Cahill, United States Marshal (1973) and Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976). On the small screen, Coogan is perhaps best remembered for his role as Uncle Fester on The Addams Family (1964-1966).This logbook page is from the 1935 version of Mutiny on the Bounty, the most critically acclaimed of the five movie versions. Jackie Coogan was not a member of the cast, and must have been visiting. Frayed left edge where page was removed from a book. Three-fourth-inch tear at bottom center. Otherwise, fine condition.
