JACKIE GLEASON. Early TLS: "Jackie Gleason", 1p, 7¼x10½. No place, no date. On "Fred Lowery" stationery to Danny. In full: "I received your letter and I was very happy to know that everything is coming along so wonderful. If you'll get in touch with Jay C. Flippen I'm sure he'll be able to let you know who I'd like invited from New York. I'm sure you remember Al Siegel, the fellow that ran the Miami Club with George Sossin, and I'd like him to be informed too. Also George of course. You will recall Playboy Benny and I wish you'd invite him him (sic). I am really thrilled about the whole thing and I hope it will be a success. I want you to know that I think this is absolutely grand of you to arrange. Thanks a million and I'll be waiting to hear from you. Your Pal." Handwritten postscript: "P.S. I borrowed this stationery from Fred Lowry (sic). He's on the bill with me here. J." FRED LOWERY (1910-1984), who had lost his vision at age two, was known as "The King of Whistlers". At a school for the blind in Austin, Texas in 1929, he met a bird imitator who, along with his piano teacher, encouraged him to whistle. Lowery appeared on radio with Vincent Lopez and Horace Heidt and toured solo. JACKIE GLEASON (1916-1987) performed in vaudeville, carnivals, nightclubs and roadhouses and in 1940 was signed to a film contract by Warner Bros. He played character roles in a number of films and appeared on Broadway before he found his niche on television. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
