JACKIE VERNON
Comedian and actor Jackie Vernon signed and initialed this contract in 1967 to appear in an episode of Kraft Music Hall for $3,750. Vernon is best remembered as the voice of Frosty the Snowman in the 1969 Bass and Rankin holiday movie Frosty the Snowman.
Contract signed "Jackie Vernon" as Performer once and initialed "JV" thrice in black ink. Also signed and initialed by a representative of Yorkshire Productions in blue ink. Lead pencil notations in unknown hand and black ink stamps. 2 pages, 8½x10¾, 1 sheet, front and verso, with 13 single-sided pages of riders, various sizes, two binder holes at top edge of most pages, bound with 1 staple, photocopies. May 19, 1967. Headed: "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract for Single Television Broadcast/and for Multiple Television Broadcasts Within One Calendar Week". Vernon signed this contract with Yorkshire Productions to appear in a Sept. 13, 1967 episode of Kraft Music Hall, with rehearsals commencing on June 22, 1967 and taping on June 27, 1967. Vernon was to be paid $3,750 for this appearance. American comedian and actor Vernon (1924-1987) is probably best remembered as the voice of Frosty the Snowman in three Bass and Rankin TV movies: Frosty the Snowman (1969) and its two sequels, Frosty's Winter Wonderland (1976) and Rudolph & Frost's Christmas in July (1982). However, Vernon gained fame as a stand-up comedian with a stage persona of a luckless loser with a self-deprecating, deadpan and sometimes surprisingly dark sense of humor. He started his career in the 1950s and got his big break when Steve Allen spotted him and invited him to a 1963 episode of Talent Scouts. Vernon had numerous appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show (1964-1969), The David Frost Show (1969-1970) and The Hollywood Squares (1968-1972) and was a frequent guest at Dean Martin's celebrity roasts and opener for Judy Garland. He also had acting credits in a total of 14 movies and TV shows between 1969 and 1986. Lightly toned and creased. Missing and rounded corners. Last two pages have separated from staple. Light tears in top, right and left corners. Staple holes in top left corner. Edges are lightly discolored. Folded twice and unfolded; some pages come folded once. Otherwise in fine condition.
