Jacob Benton (1814-1892) was a United States Representative from New
Hampshire. A practicing lawyer, Benton served in the New Hampshire House
from 1854-1856 before serving as a Brigadier General during the American
Civil War. After the war, Benton was elected to the U.S. House of
Representatives, a post he would hold for two terms (1867-1871). Benton died
at the age of 78 after being thrown from his carriage. Irregularly cut. Stained
throughout. Slightly soiled. Light surface creases. Mounted residue on verso.
