Autograph Letter signed: "Jacobus Langendoen", 1 page 6¾x10½,
affixed to an 8½x11 page (2 surfaces). Boston, Massachusetts, 1939 September
27. To R. Errington Ward, Melrose, Massachusetts. In full: "In
response to your letter I'm sending you one of my pictures. [Item not
included.] I ran out of photographs and hope this one will do! Hope to meet
you sometime at a symphony - concert. Sincerely yours". JACOBUS "JAAP"
LANGENDOEN (1890-1973) was a Dutch-born cellist with the Boston Symphony
Orchestra, not retiring until 1962. He is also remembered as an outstanding
music teacher, and as conductor of Boston University's orchestra.
Ralph Errington Ward (1926-2009) a fighter pilot and squadron commander in
the China-Burma-India Theater of World War II, went on to become President and
CEO of Cheseborough-Ponds, Inc., transforming the cosmetics firm into a major
home product conglomerate. Mailing folds. Lightly creased and toned at edges.
