Actress turned publicist BARNA OSTERTAG (1902-1993) wore many hats in the entertainment industry. Born in Piqua, Ohio in 1902, Ostertag served as an American Red Cross nurse in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. She took up stage acting when she moved to New York, debuting on Broadway in Nine Pine Street (1933). She appeared in a total 6 Broadways, her last being The Fabulous Invalid (1938). 10 years later, Ostertag returned to Broadway as a production assistant. By the 1950's she was working for the Lucy Kroll Agency as a publicist, a career she maintained through the 1980's. A life-long thespian, Ostertag was a member of the Actor's Equity and the National association of Talent Representatives. JACQUELINE BROOKES (1930-2013) graced her first Broadway stage in 1955 in Tiger At the Gates. While this was merely a small role, Brookes went on to win several theatre awards including a Theatre World Award for The Cretan Woman (1955). She also won an Obie Award for Six Characters in Search of An Author. Her various screen credits include The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991), As the World Turns (1956) and The Good Son (1993). She also had notable performances in Losing Isaiah (1996) and The Gambler (1974). An actress with a wide fan base, Brookes is even known to Trekky fans as "Admiral Brand" for her guest appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation (1992). Theatre World, founded in 1945 by Daniel Blum, is America's oldest annual record of Broadway, Off-Broadway and regional theatre, referenced by industry professionals, historians, students and theatre fans worldwide. Until 1998, when a separate nonprofit corporation was established, Theatre World's editorial staff bestowed the prestigious Theatre World Awards for outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway debuts. Screen World (from 1950) and Dance World (from 1966), administered from the same office, furnished comprehensive information on those entertainment genres.
