JACQUELINE SUSANN, IRVING MANSFIELD and FOUR OTHERS
Guest roster signed by Susann during her long but stormy marriage to press agent Irving Mansfield, with 4 other signatures
Signatures: "Jackie Susann Mansfield", "Irving Mansfield - Oct. 3, 1954", "Bob Foreman", "Betty Foreman" [Pencil note, unknown hand = "V. P. B.B.D. &. O."], "Barbara Duffy", "Bill Duffy", "Mary 'B' Markley", and on verso "Teka Wertheimer", "Aida Kahn", "Judy Kahn", and one other signer. 1 page, 10x5.JACQUELINE SUSANN (1918-1974), relatively unsuccessful as an actress and singer, became one of the cultural icons of the 1960s with her soapy steamy novels, including the best sellers Valley of the Dolls (1966) and Once is Not Enough (1973). She appeared in the movie versions of two of her films. Her tempestuous private life provided material and thinly fictionalized characters. IRVING MANSFIELD (1908-1988) was a New York-based press agent when he met and married struggling young actress Susann in 1939, and managed her career until her death. Mansfield produced three of his wife's films, beginning with The Love Machine (1971). He had earlier produced numerous TV episodes, including 13 of The Morey Amsterdam Show (1948-1949) and 5 of The Frank Sinatra Show (1951). Their marriage was an enduring but stormy one; she had many affairs, and once read a "Dear John" letter to members of her play cast. BOB FOREMAN and BETTY FOREMAN were executives of Batten, Barton, Dunstine & Osborne (BBDO), an advertising agency formed by merger in 1928. Bob headed the Radio/TV Copy Department in the 1950s, when TV advertising was first taking off. Barbara was also a Vice President at the prize-winning agency, which today employs 15,000 persons in 80 countries. BILL DUFFY and BARBARA DUFFY were members of a philanthropic New York family. Their son, Bill Duffy, Jr., was named Man of the Year by the Anemia Foundation in 2012. Left edge worn and frayed from binding. Heavily toned. Signatures (unknown hand) on verso. Faint, small stains throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
