CARMEL MYERS (1899-1980, born in San Francisco, California) was an
American actress with over 90 TV shows and movies to her credit, with most of
these before 1934. Myers was once one of Hollywood's most enticing and
alluring vamps, especially as Iras in Ben-Hur (1926), and starred
opposed Douglas Fairbanks and Rudolph Valentino. She made the transition to
talkies with character roles and even to television with a 15-minute interview
show, The Carmel Myers Show (1951). JACQUELINE SUSANN (1918-1974)
appeared in two of the films made from her novels, Valley of the Dolls
and The Love Machine. Her other works include Once is Not
Enough and Every Night, Josephine!, and her notes to a planned
sequel to Valley of the Dolls were later adapted by writer Rae Lawrence
and published as Shadow of the Dolls. TV producer and publicist IRVING
MANSFIELD (1908-1988) was married for 35 years to author Jacqueline
Susann, and spent much of his career publicizing her novels and producing
the film versions. The marriage worked despite Susann's many infidelities;
Mansfield was adept at generating good publicity for her and her books.
Susann died in 1974; Irving co-authored a memoir, Life with
Jackie, in 1983. Mansfield didn't rely entirely on his wife for his
success. He produced several other TV shows for CBS beginning in the late
1940s, including Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, and the Morey
Amsterdam and Frank Sinatra shows. ALFRED W. SCHWALBERG (d. 1974) was
married to Carmel Myers from 1951 until his death in 1974. He worked in several
different positions within Paramount Studios, often within their sales
department. He also worked with several other studios during his career,
consistently being named as General Sales Manager. Heavily toned. Small ink
stain to left of Mansfield signature. Ink note (unknown hand) on top left corner
of front. Slight surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
