JACQUES JANSEN Black and white 4x6 photograph of the French baritone, signing with his name and his most popular role, Pelléas Inscribed photograph signed in French and Spanish, translated in full: "To the young woman Coralie and la Pujol/ Offering wishes/ J. Jansen/ Pelléas ", in black ink, b/w 4x6. Baritone Jacques Jansen (1913-2002) was an active operetta and concert performer, known for his portrayal of the character Pelléas in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande. He made his grand debut as Pelléas at the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 1941, which proved to truly be his calling, as he would go on to record the role twice in broadcasted performances. Even though he was best known for his Debussy character, Jansen was able to perform in a wide variety of roles and genres, including baroque opera, modern opera, and melodies. Other well received roles by Jansen include the title role in Fragonard, Valérien in Malvina, and Antonin in Ciboulette. After his singing career, Jansen taught voice for several years, being a professor at the Conservatoire in Marseille and later the Paris Conservatoire. Paper remnants on bottom edge. Corners and edges slightly worn. Slight surface scratches and dents (not seen head on). Some parts of inscription lifted, but signature clearly legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
