Photograph inscribed and signed: "To the Barney Family/with best
wishes/Jake Garn". Color, 8x10. Jake Garn (b. 1932) a Republican
US Senator from Utah (1974-1993), became the first sitting member of
Congress to fly in space when he traveled as a Payload Specialist on the
shuttle Discovery flight STS-51D (April 1985). Garn was no
stranger to flight; as a US Navy and Utah Air National Guard pilot, he had flown
many aircraft, including a prototype B-2. He also headed the Senate
Appropriations subcommittee which oversaw NASA's budget. Fine
condition.
