Depicted in the ring in a bout with Sugar Ray Robinson, his opponent in six legendary fights (1942, two fights in 1943, 1945 and 1951). La Motta won only the second match, dealing Robinson his first loss in his professional career. The fighters faced off for the last time on February 14, 1951, in what would come to be known as "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre", which Robinson won by a TKO in the 13th round. Nicknamed the "Bronx Bull" because of his aggressive, charging style, Jake "The Raging Bull" LaMotta (1921-2017) achieved prominence when he won a 10-round decision over Sugar Ray Robinson on February 5, 1943. He and Robinson fought six times, with LaMotta winning only that one bout. On June 16, 1949, LaMotta won the World Middleweight Championship. He defended his title twice, losing it when Robinson knocked him out in the 13th round on February 14, 1951. LaMotta won 83 fights, 30 by knockout, and lost 19, four by knockout (with four draws). He co-authored his autobiography, Raging Bull (1970), which was adapted into the 1981 film starring Robert DeNiro. LaMotta was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. Minor surface creases (most not evident head-on). Otherwise, fine condition.
