aggressive, charging style, Jake "The Raging Bull" LaMotta (1921-2017) achieved
prominence when he won a 10-round decision over Sugar Ray Robinson on February 5,
1943. He and Robinson fought six times, with LaMotta winning only that one bout. On
June 16, 1949, LaMotta won the World Middleweight Championship. He defended his
title twice, losing it when Robinson knocked him out in the 13th round on February 14,
1951. LaMotta won 83 fights, 30 by knockout, and lost 19, four by knockout (with four
draws). He co-authored his autobiography, Raging Bull (1970), which was adapted into the
1981 film starring Robert DeNiro. LaMotta was inducted into the International Boxing
Hall of Fame in 1990. Lightly creased at upper portion and at lower corners. Otherwise, fine
