Guest page with short notes handwritten by James A. Farley, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee in the 1930s, and by actress Gigi Perreau in 1962. With a small b/w printed photograph and bio of Perreau affixed. From the collection of radio host George Sanders.
Autograph notes signed "James A Farley" and, on verso, "Gigi Perreau", both in blue ink. 1 page each, 7½x6. Farley's note on a 6½x3¾ sheet of paper affixed. 3½x1¼ b/w printed photo of Perreau affixed. Farley's note in full: "To George Sanders Jr With all g ood [sic] wishes". Perreau's note in full: "1/8/62 To George It was wonderful meeting you, and thanks a million for such a relaxed and comfortable interview! The best always,". FARLEY (1888-1976) was Postmaster General under Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1940), whose presidential campaigns he had managed in 1932 and 1936. He was also Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (1932-1940), holding both posts until disagreeing with Roosevelt about running for a third term in 1940. He resigned from both positions that year but remained Chairman of the Democratic Party in New York State, a position in which he served from 1930 to 1944. After leaving Roosevelt's administration, Farley served as Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation of New York until his retirement in 1973. American actress GIGI PERREAU (b. 1941) made her film in 1943's Madame Curie, a film that her older brother Gerald Perreau was vying to appear in. She went on to a prolific acting career as a child and well into her 20s. While a child, she appeared in a ton of films, including The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956) and Dance with Me, Henry (1956). Throughout the 1940s she starred in many foreign and domestic family-friendly films. However, like most child actors, she couldn't keep her success on the silver screen going when she grew up. Perreau started appearing almost exclusively on TV starting in 1953, with recurring roles on The Betty Hutton Show as Pat Strickland (1959-1960) and on Follow the Sun as Katherine Ann Richards (1961-1962). She all but retired from acting after 1967, with a few acting credits in the 1970s and the new millennium. Her brother Gerald Perreau (usually credited as Peter Miles) made his screen debut a year after she made hers, eventually becoming a successful actor and screenwriter. Lightly toned, soiled, creased and bowed. Pen dribbled in places while writing Farley's signature, which is lightly smeared in places but legible Light rippling from Farley's note, which shows through and touches Perreau's signature and note. Farley's note has irregular top and bottom edges. Neatly torn from binding at right edge. Light dent in left edge.
