Typed letter signed "JamesA Farley" in green ink. 1 page, 8x10¼, on Farley's personalized letterhead as Chairman of the board at the Coca-Cola Export Corporation. Nov. 5, 1964. Addressed to Mr. Carson C. Hathaway, Silver Spring, Maryland. In full: "Dear Mr. Hathaway: Thank you for your letter of November 1st relative to my appearance on Meet the Press television program. It was very kind of you not only to watch it but to take the time and trouble to write me about it. You were particularly generous in your reference to me and I hope I shall always be able to carry on in a manner that will meet with your approval. As soon as I receive reprints of the program I shall send you on. With best wishes, Sincerely yours,". Farley (1888-1976) was Postmaster General under Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1940), whose presidential campaigns he had managed in 1932 and 1936. He resigned from both positions that year but remained Chairman of the Democratic Party in New York State, a position in which he served from 1930 to 1944. After leaving Roosevelt's administration, Farley served as Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation of New York until his retirement in 1973. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
