Typed Letter signed: "James Aldridge", 5¾x7½. London, 1976 April 20. To "Dear Mr.
Godward", in full: "Some time ago you asked me for an autographed photo. I am a little late in
replying because I made the mistake of waiting for a good photo to turn up from somewhere. It
never did. But I hope this brief note will serve. With best wishes, Yours sincerely". Australian-born
journalist and author James Aldridge (1918-2015) has written over 30 novels, as well as short
stories, plays and TV scripts. Many of his books, such as The True Story of Lilli Stubeck
(1989) are set in rural Australia. He drew upon years living in the Middle East to write
the novel The Diplomat (1949) and a history of Cairo (1969). He won the Lenin Peace
Prize in 1973. Light mailing folds, not at signature. Pinhead stain at upper left corner.
