Arness inscribed a black and white publicity photograph of himself as Matt Dillon.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Rosie -/always, /Jim/Arness". B/w, 8x10. James Arness (1923-2011) the older brother of actor Peter Graves, is best known for his role as Marshal Matt Dillon in the long-running TV Western Gunsmoke (1955-1974). The role was first offered to Arness' friend and mentor, John Wayne, who pushed for Arness being cast in the part. Arness also played Zeb Macahan in the MGM TV series, How the West Was Won (1978-1979), and he starred as Jim McClain on McClain's Law (1981-1982). Few of his screen roles were memorable, though one has become an object of cult worship: Arness was cast as the menacingly glowing space alien, described by one character as "an intellectual carrot," in The Thing (1951). Minor surface creases (barely visible) at hat. Slightly soiled at lower right blank margin. Fine condition.
