ink
Autograph sentiment signed: "My best/ wishes/ James Barton" in
black ink. 5x3 index card. The entertainment career of James Barton
(1890-1962) extended from minstrel shows in his youth to TV series of the
early 1960s. Debuting on Broadway in The Passing Show of 1919, he
appeared in such post-World War II stage successes as Tobacco Road,
The Iceman Cometh and Paint Your Wagon. His first film was a
silent one, Why Women Remarry (1923). His last was The Misfits
(1961). A frequent cast member on TV playhouses in the 1950s, he appeared on
three episodes of Naked City (1959-1961). Barton, who could sing and
dance as well as act, usually played supporting roles, but Bing Crosby named him
one of his 10 favorite performers. Toned and soiled. Stained throughout.
Light surface creases. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
