Stevens, Jr./8/28/57 ('Father V')" and on verso "Anita Hadler", "H. P. Hadler", "Bill Schuh", "Mary Lou Schuh", "Lt Pat Lynch", "To a secret, talented friend/Marry G. Durroy", 9¼x5.JAMES CAESAR PETRILLO (1892-1984), a trumpet player, went from head of the local Chicago musician's union to President of the United Federation of Musicians (1940-1958). He used work stoppages effectively to extract better earnings for his members from the record companies. Even after stepping down as President, Petrillo dominated the union, heading is civil rights division, charged desegregating local unions. Films and radio shows of his era are replete with references to jokes about the need to get Petrillo's approval. Petrillo Bandstand in Grant's Park, Chicago is named for him. Toned. Corners and edges lightly worn. Signature on verso cut off. Otherwise, fine condition.
