B/w and purple ink, 2 pages including cover, 8x10¾, 1 sheet folded, front and verso, printed on cardstock. Menu from a Jan. 13, 1943 "opening dinner" at Hotel Statler in Washington. CAGNEY (1899-1986, born in New York City), who appeared in leading roles on Broadway from the mid-1920s, gained film stardom, legendary tough guy status and an iconic pineapple-to-the-puss scene in Public Enemy (1931). In addition to his Best Actor Oscar for Yankee Doodle Dandy, he received two additional Oscar nominations in the category for Angels With Dirty Faces (1938) and Love Me Or Leave Me (1955). After years of health problems, Cagney made a successful film comeback in Ragtime (1981). TIBBETT (1896-1960, born in Bakersfield, California) was the principal baritone singer of Italian roles with the Metropolitan Opera (1923-1950). He also performed on radio and appeared in six films of the 1930s. His first film, The Rogue Song (1930) earned him an Oscar nomination as Best Actor. In the 1930s, WARING (1900-1984, born Frederick Malcolm Waring in Tyrone, Pennsylvania) and his band performed on radio and in films. They were at the 1940 World's Fair and appeared on Broadway in 1945. Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians scored pop hits in 1947 and 1949 and became the first band to land their own television show (1949). Waring was the recipient of a 1982 Congressional Gold Medal for his contributions to American music. LOUISE (1915-1970), born Anita Louise Fremault, got her acting start on Broadway at age six and debuted in films soon after that, in 1922. Her roles movies included costume dramas during her peak in the 1930s (Madame DuBarry, 1934; Midsummer Night's Dream, 1935; The Story of Louis Pasteur, 1936; Marie Antoinette, 1938) and ingénue roles after that, though she was equally effective at playing one of the black hats (Nine Girls, 1944). Lightly toned, stained, soiled and creased. Pen skipped while signing part of Waring's signature, which is legible. Irregular right edge. Rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
