LOU DIALS and JAMES 'COOL PAPA' BELL
Lou Dials and James Bell signs a color illustration of James Bell.
Illustration signed: "Lou Dials" and "Cool Papa Bell". Color, 8x10. An outstanding outfielder and first baseman, LOU DIALS began his career in 1925 with one of the Negro Leagues' most powerful teams, the Chicago American Giants. Over his long career in the Negro Leagues (1925-1946), Dials would also play for the Memphis Red Sox, Detroit Stars, Hilldale, Columbus Blue Birds, Akron, New York Black Yankees, Cleveland Giants and Homestead Grays. In 1931, unofficial statistics showed Dials, who was then playing for the Detroit Stars, winning the Negro National League batting title with a .382 average. A talented centerfielder with blazing speed, JAMES 'COOL PAPA' BELL was arguably the fastest man to ever play professional baseball. He began his career as a knuckleball pitcher and later became a leadoff hitter and stolen base artist for three Negro Leagues dynasties: the St. Louis Stars of the late 1920s, the Pittsburgh Crawfords of the 1930s and the Homestead Grays of the mid-1940s. They are both Hall of Famers. Fine condition.
