Murdoch (1811-1893) was also an elocution teacher and theorist, the author of several books on the subject including, A Plea for Spoken Language. During the Civil War, Murdoch, himself an invalid, entertained wounded Union soldiers with patriotic readings and made benefit performances to fund their care. Irregularly trimmed. Lightly soiled at lower left edge. Mounting adhesive remnant on verso shows through lightly. Otherwise, fine condition.
