Meadows, Queens), New York, one 5¢ green-and-white 1964 World's Fair stamp
affixed. Addressed to M. W. Espy, Jr., Headland, Alabama. Typed caption:
"Autograph of:/J. Ernest Wharton, Member of Congress, 28th New York
District, 1951- ." Wharton (1899-1990, born in Binghamton, NY) was an
American politician. He was district attorney from 1932 to 1941 and county judge
from 1941 to 1951 for Scholarie County, New York and was one of New York's
representatives in the House of Representatives from 1951 to 1965, defeating
Gore Vidal in 1960. Lightly toned and creased, otherwise in fine
condition.
