Autograph Letter signed: "J Ewing Ritchie", 1 page, 4½x7½. No
place, no date, but docketed on verso "Sept. 29, 1891". To "Dear Mr.
Fisher", in full: "I send the last file of my review of 'Those
Other Animals!' [Item not included.] I ought to have sent it with
the other yesterday. The fact you have sent me such rot to read means that I
have become for the time an imbecile and have since a severe attack of
diarrhea!! Yours truly". James Ewing Ritchie (1820-1898) was an
English travel writer and political biographer. He wrote seven books
about London, and others about his "rambles" in Australia and South Africa. His
biographies included The Real Gladstone (1898). Ritchie sometimes used
the pen name "Christopher Crayon." 2" tear at top edge. Small holes at top edge.
Normal mailing folds. Corners slightly creased. Soiled at verso. Ink note
(unknown hand) at verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
