Application signed: "James Gleason", 2p (front and verso), 6½x8½. Beverly Hills, California, 1937 November 11. Application for Membership in the American Federation of Radio Artists. In his own hand, Gleason applies for associate membership, identifies himself as an actor, lists his affiliation with the Actors Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild, supplies his phone number and home address in Beverly Hills, and estimates his annual income from radio work as less than $2,000 per year. Ink and pencil notations (unknown hand) in lower margin. James Gleason (1882-1959) appeared in over 150 films from the late 1920s through the 1950s, usually cast in secondary roles as a tough-talking but benign urban character. Gleason, a veteran of the Spanish-American War and World War I, was also a playwright and screenwriter, and he made several TV guest appearances in the 1950s. Light mailing folds.
