JAMES GREGORY Signed photograph of the actor in costume as Ursus, holding a cigarette and standing in front of his dressing room door Photograph signed: "Go Apes!/ Ursus"/ AKA James/ Gregory" in blue ink, color, 8x10. Stage, screen, and television actor James Gregory (1911-2002) had a prolific six-decade career. After making his Broadway debut in Key Largo (1939-1940), he went on to appear in such stage hits as Dream Girl (1945-1946), All My Sons (1947), Death of a Salesman (1949-1950), and The Desperate Hours (1955). Gregory, who appeared in a long list of feature films, is widely recognized for his bravura performance as demagogic, dead-headed senator Johnny Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate (1962). Television audiences may remember him as hard-shelled Inspector Luger, whom he played for six seasons (1975-1982) on the television sitcom Barney Miller, and as Barney Ruditsky in The Lawless Years (1959-1961). Gregory made scores of guest appearances on other television shows. Fine condition.
