Artist Gurney already had a successful career creating illustrations for archaeologists and science fiction and fantasy books when he decided to combine his artistic talent with his childhood fascination with dinosaurs. His very popular stories, beginning in 1992, of Dinotopia, an island where dinosaurs and humans coexist, was the result. Gurney is also in demand as an illustrator of dinosaurs for nonfiction works.
