The U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania signs a letter to Ralph E. Ward on his personal U.S. Senate letterhead.
Typed Letter signed: "James H. Duff" as U.S. senator, 1 page, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1952 February 14. On his personal United States Senate Letterhead addressed to Mr. Ralph E. Ward, Jr., Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts. In full: "Dear Mr. Ward: I am very glad to comply with your recent re-quest for my autograph. Sincerely yours,". Accompanied by the transmittal envelope, postmarked, Washington, D.C., February 14, 1952, with Duff's ink stamped frank. James Henderson Duff (1883-1969) was born in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the law school of the University of Pittsburgh in 1907 and began practicing law in Pennsylvania that year. He served as the attorney general of Pennsylvania (1943-1947), Governor of Pennsylvania (1947-1951) and as a Republican United States Senator of Pennsylvania (1951-1957). After leaving office, he practiced law in Washington, D.C. until his death. Normal mailing folds. Adhesive residue on verso (light show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
