On his Congressional letterhead, listing Harvey on the House Administration and Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committees, to Mr. George Hooper, Special Assistant for Legislative Affairs, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington, D.C. In full: "During a recent visit in my District I met with some constituents who are members of the Citizens Communications Council of the Essexville-Hampton Public School System. They are most interested in learning if any Federal assistance and/or manpower would be available to the Council in its research efforts concerning the problems which exist in the School System. For your information, I am enclosing some material which was provided to me during our meeting concerning the present efforts and future goals of this Council. I would be most appreciative of any comments or information that you might be able to provide concerning the availability of Federal funds to assist in this research program. Thank you very much for your cooperation and assistance. With kind regards". Enclosures mentioned not present. The Essexville-Hampton public school system is in Bay County, Michigan, part of Congressman Harvey's 8th District. Republican James Harvey (born in 1922) was Mayor of Saginaw, Michigan (1957-1959) before serving as a U.S. Congressman from Michigan from 1961-1974. In 1974, he was appointed Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District, Michigan. Lightly creased at upper blank corner. Receipt stamp at lower right corner, faint stamp at left margin touches type (all legible). Staple holes at upper left margin, ¾x¼-inch diameter stain at lower right blank margin. Overall, fine condition.
